In this course we don't learn nothing about Maori, they are indigenous from Australia. I want to show to all of you a video because is more interactive than a text it can be more boring for you. How do yo think about this indigenous? Do yo know them?
I like it... It seems to me that these video show a good point of view of maori.. and the first video show the dance... this dance is special for me, I think that they put feelings when they dance... also the topic of your song and the expressions on thir face...
I have a friend from New Zealand, she is half Maori (her dad) half Autralian (her mom)her name is Ngahuia Rangi Tohiariki (I only remember the translation for Rangi=sky/heaven). When I met her she told me that in NZ the Maori culture and traditions are totally respected by people and that they still talk Maori language (Te reo Maori), keep their dances (Haka) and do their ceremonies, specially in weddings. They keep their traditions alive, and the families often get together (biiiig families).
Some words I remember she taught me:
Kia ora! = Hi!-Hello!/Good luck! hakoakoa = to be happy hoha = to be bored wai = agua puoru = music kanikani = to dance pati = to party and the funniest one pene = pencil
